(USA)
La Mercè, Girona
6€ Ant. / 10€ Taq.
Freedom First, the first record ever signed by an artist convicted of murder on death row in an Ohio prison. The prisoner is poet Keith LaMar, who was sentenced to death more than 28 years ago for a crime he claims he did not commit. In 2020, a series of activists created the Freedom First project to raise awareness of their case. The creators of the project organized a series of jazz concerts in the streets of New York during which LaMar participated via telephone. Among these activists is Brooklyn-based Catalan pianist Albert Marquès, who conceived and produced these concerts to transform them into LaMar's first album. At the Black Music Festival they will present this album with Keith LaMar participating via telephone.
