At only 25 years old, Momi Maiga stands out as a virtuoso of his instrument (the kora), as well as for his vocal fluency and as a curious, self-taught composer with a surprising musical sensitivity.
Immersed in the rich musical heritage of West Africa, Momi Maiga grew up in the Casamance region, in southern Senegal. Descended from the renowned musicians of the Cissokho Family, Momi was educated in their rich musical traditions. At the age of six he started playing the kora, one of the most revered instruments in the region. Following the historical legacy of the griots, which spans back centuries, his artistic heritage links him with a deep connection with the Mande traditions and their repertoires.
Two decades later, Momi Maiga stands out as a virtuoso of the kora; a bold and curious composer with an amazing musical sensibility.
In his first debut album entitled Nio, he presents a work that combines ethnic jazz, flamenco and the sounds of his roots. He fuses the kora with classical instruments such as violin and cello, and embarks on a journey that leads him to the beginning of a promising musical career. With a spectacular premiere at the end of 2021 at Fira Mediterrània in Manresa, Momi is attracting the attention of national and international promoters.
