The Black Music Big Band is much more than a musical formation. It is an educational and social project that, for a decade, has been accompanying young people from the Girona region in their artistic and personal growth. Promoted by the Casa de la Música Foundation and the Black Music Festival, the initiative uses soul, funk and modern music as tools for transformation, cohesion and opportunities.
Founded in 2016, the BMBB offers musical training to young people between 9 and 25 years old through different stages: the Black Music Big Band Junior (9 to 15 years old), the BMBB (16 to 25 years old) and the Black Music Choir (a cappella voices). The project also participates in the musical training of children in Girona Est with the Música a l’Est program, and promotes musical dissemination in secondary schools with the proposal “A morning of soul and funk”, where high school students discover these genres and experience a live concert.
In these ten years, the BMBB has developed a wide range of thematic projects: tributes to Aretha Franklin, to Motown, a big band review of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, a tribute to Tina Turner, a show dedicated to The Commitments and two disco music shows -Disco Fever I and II- created together with the Jove Orquestra de Corda de les Comarques Gironines.
