Up Quintet

UP Quintet is the explosive hard bop project co-led by Girona natives Albert Clapés and Pau Cullell, on trumpet and tenor saxophone respectively. After a long career in the Catalan music scene, including jazz among other genres, they have combined their experience and talent in this quintet to pay homage to the classic sound of iconic bands such as The Jazz Messengers, Horace Silver, Clifford Brown & Max Roach or Benny Golson. ​

The group, completed by a powerful rhythmic base formed by Aleix Cansell on piano, Oriol Tonietti on drums and Albert Martínez on double bass, offers a repertoire of compositions that capture the essence of hard bop. The proposal is a celebration of energy, improvisation and virtuosity, with forceful melodies and dynamic rhythms that guarantee an unforgettable experience. UP Quintet’s sound is a dose of authentic, direct and uncompromising jazz.
