Where did the New Orleans brass band tradition come from and how has it influenced modern brass bands? What is a second line and what social function does it have? What is your most common repertoire and how is it played? What are the basic characteristics of improvisation in this style?
In this workshop we will work with a “classic” modern brass band formation such as Rebirth Brass Band or Hot 8 Brass Band: trumpets, trombones, sousaphone, bass drum and snare drum. We will study and play a repertoire made up of some of the best-known songs of these two brass bands, such as Feel Like Funkin’ It Up, What’s My Name or Do Watcha Wanna.
This workshop is part of the celebrations of the tenth anniversary of the Girona Marxing Band, a pedagogical project of the La Moderna music and performing arts school.
