The Black Music Big Band (BMBB), born in early 2016 as a joint training project of the Casa de la Música Foundation and the Black Music Festival, has established itself as a benchmark for young musical talent in the Girona region and one of the most influential musical projects in Catalonia. With a career spanning over 100 performances, the BMBB has earned a prominent place in the country’s music scene, both for its interpretative quality and its ability to connect with the audience.
Specializing in the sounds of black music, especially in styles such as funk and soul, the BMBB works on a repertoire that includes songs by great artists such as Maceo Parker, Tower of Power, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, among many others. This repertoire not only offers a high-quality musical experience, but also educates and inspires new generations of musicians in the values and sounds of this genre.
In addition, the BMBB collaborates in the musical training of children from the eastern sector of Girona through the Música a l’est project, a program promoted jointly with the Girona Est Foundation to promote access to musical education and artistic development in this area of the city.
Today, the BMBB has four formations that offer live performances with a rich and diversified repertoire. Over the years, it has produced acclaimed thematic shows such as the tribute to Aretha Franklin, Motown Project, Red Hot Chili Peppers Revisited, Seguint els Commitments, and Disco Fever, each designed to transport the audience to different eras and styles within the world of black music.
With this trajectory, the BMBB reaffirms its commitment to the training and promotion of young talents, consolidating itself as a platform that promotes black music and keeps its spirit alive in Catalonia.
